hello, i have a town server running gnome remote desktop and whenever i try to open firefox with it the window opens and then closes a split second later, help on this issue would be appreciated, also im very much used to using windows and have minimal experience with linux distributions so im not sure how to access a program that allows me to explore directories like going to computer does for windows

Open a shell and run the firefox command. Look at the error output.
As far as file manager goes, it might have nautilus installed, but I doubt it. The mystical (in your case) Google search engine speaks of a file manager called Thunar.
