Hello Again Forum,|
So, I'm meeting a number of new hurdles and I'm hopeful there are some explanations out there that can help me move past them.
1) I can no longer log in using Filezilla. I followed the How-To instructions on the forum about a couple months ago, and was able to FTP into the folders on my server. When I got back from vacation, however, it no longer works and I didn't touch any of the login settings.
2. I'm trying to set up my first email account on the VPS. The problem is, I can't even get webmail to open up. When I'm done adding a new mail account, I open up the webmail client (I've tried both Horde and RoundCube, but neither works) and enter my username (I'm assuming that's my email address) and password. I get a "login failed" message every time. That makes me think my MX record is incorrect (mail.mindypostoff.com), but I really have no idea.
3. In the absence of Filezilla working, I've been using the File Manager utility from the control panel. Up until last week, that was working ok, albeit tedious and time-consuming. Now, when I'm trying to delete or overwrite a file, I get a Fatal Error message:
Fatal error: pcntl_fork() [<a href='function.pcntl-fork'>function.pcntl-fork</a>]: Error 12 in /usr/local/lxlabs/kloxo/httpdocs/htmllib/phplib/lxlib.php on line 438
4. Finally, when I log in to Kloxo under my admin account, I often see "Out of Memory" messages either on the tree sidebar on the left and/or at the top where I see the breadcrumbs of where I am currently.
Are these issues related? So far, VPS hosting is kicking my butt, but I'd really like to be victorious!
Thanks for all your time,

Are you running the anti-spam email services?|
They can take up A LOT of memory.
I'd recommend at least a City package for the full Kloxo meal deal.
Also, I have noticed in the past that if you update the system with yum that it installs many not strictly needed things, and in some cases installed both webservers and was trying to run both. Make sure the services you have running are only those that you need. Avoid using fastcgi processes for things that simply do not need them, there is nothing wrong with plain old php-cgi for most things. Fastcgi should be reserved for REALLY intense needs when php-cgi starts to fail.
Also, to get some better Kloxo specific support go here:
If you find that you just can't handle Kloxo (which admittedly is not a very robust software package), I'd recommend switching to a DirectAdmin plan. They are not all that much more expensive and you have the benefits of a much better Linux distribution coupled with a much more mature hosting platform. There is always CPanel if you need it to be really flashy and deceptively easy.
Also, I get the impression that you lean more toward the artist end of the spectrum. I'd like to recommend a Linux Administration Guide.
You can find one for CentOS included here:
and one for Debian here:
